The ocean covers about 70% of the Earth. A sea is a small ocean area. The  deepest part of the ocean is 7 miles deep!

The ocean is full of life. There are 5 types of ocean plant life: phytoplankton,kelp,red algae,seagrass, and sargassum. Ocean plants provide food and shelter for fish. They filter the water. Plants in the shallow water perform photosynthesis.

About 95% of animals in the ocean are invertebrates (no backbone). Interesting fact: lobsters pee on each other to communicate! The largest ocean animal is the blue whale. Zooplankton are the smallest. You need a microscope to see them!!

Humans have a big, and bad impact on the environment of the ocean. About 5 trillion pieces of plastic are in the ocean. Factories overfish which destroys local fish stocks. Factories oil spills kill  fish every day.There have been chemical spills from industry at sea. There is noise pollution witch impacts marine animals
